Itinerary Details
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a Jema Safaris team member welcomes you and transfers you to your lodge in Moshi. Unwind after your journey. In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing and equipment check.
Overnight: Maridadi Hotel
Meals: Dinner
After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate to register with the park authorities and meet your full mountain crew. Your trek begins through the lush, emerald rainforest, alive with birdsong, exotic plants, and playful colobus monkeys. The air is humid and earthy. As you walk under towering trees draped in moss, the trail winds upward into higher elevations.
You’ll hike for 5–7 hours at a steady pace, learning the rhythm of "pole pole" (slowly, slowly)—the key to success on Kilimanjaro. As you reach Machame Camp, the forest thins and you arrive at a tranquil clearing under a canopy of stars. Enjoy a warm meal prepared by your camp chef and fall asleep to the gentle sounds of nature.
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Montane Rainforest
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Machame Camp (3,000m)
Today’s trek takes you out of the forest and into the moorland zone. The trees fade, replaced by giant heathers, volcanic boulders, and alpine grasses. The trail climbs steadily, offering open views of Kibo Peak and the vast Shira Plateau ahead.
You’ll stop to rest and take in the scenery—this zone feels like another world. Upon reaching Shira Camp, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic sunset views and a cooler mountain climate.
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Shira Camp (3,840m)
This is your most important acclimatization day. You’ll hike up to Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation at 4,600m, before descending again to Barranco Camp. The climb high/sleep low strategy is ideal for helping your body adjust to the altitude.
Along the way, the landscape changes again—this time to alpine desert, with strange plant species and sweeping views. Expect a challenging but highly rewarding day. By the time you arrive at camp, you’ll feel stronger and more confident.
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert to Valley
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Barranco Camp (3,950m)
Your day starts with a scramble up the famous Barranco Wall—an adventurous and thrilling climb that offers unforgettable views of the surrounding valleys and glaciers. Though it looks intimidating, it’s very doable with the help of your guides.
After conquering the wall, the trail becomes gentler as you descend into the Karanga Valley and then ascend to Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest and hydrate. This is a shorter day, giving your body time to recover before summit night.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Today is your final ascent before summit night. The trail to Barafu Camp winds through a rocky, wind-swept moonscape. Take your time and keep sipping water.
After lunch and rest, you’ll receive a final summit briefing. Sleep early—you’ll wake around 11:00 PM to begin your midnight summit attempt under a star-filled sky.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Arctic
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Barafu Camp (4,640m)
The moment of truth. At midnight, begin your climb in the cold, dark silence. With your headlamp lighting the way, push slowly but steadily past Stella Point and finally reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Arrive just in time for sunrise—an emotional, breathtaking experience like no other.
After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully to Barafu for a short rest and hot meal, then continue down to Mweka Camp through ever-thickening air and returning vegetation.
Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
Habitat: Glaciers, Alpine Desert, Moorland
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Your final trek on Kilimanjaro is a gentle, scenic descent through the lush montane rainforest. The trail winds beneath towering trees draped in moss, and the forest air is alive with birdsong and the rustle of colobus monkeys in the canopy. You’ll arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate—a proud reminder of your extraordinary achievement.
After heartfelt farewells to your mountain crew, you’ll be driven back to Arusha where comfort awaits. Check in at Planet Lodge, nestled in a peaceful garden setting with views of Mount Meru. Spend the afternoon completely at ease.
But this is more than just rest—this is your reward.

The park’s lifeline is the Tarangire River, which draws wildlife year-round. On your game drive, spot:
Elephants cooling off in muddy riverbanks
Tree-climbing pythons (if lucky!)
Giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and dozens of bird species
Tarangire is also home to lions, leopards, and rare animals like fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk. The dramatic landscape and peaceful setting make it an ideal first safari stop.
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: The Castle Lodge, Karatu
After breakfast, begin the iconic drive through the Ngorongoro highlands, descending from lush forests into the sweeping golden plains of the Serengeti. Along the way, pass traditional Maasai villages, grazing cattle, and stunning vistas that stretch endlessly.
As you enter the park, pause for a moment. You are now in one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations on Earth.
Spend your entire afternoon on safari, moving slowly and savoring each sighting:
Elephants moving gracefully across the plains
Giraffes feeding from umbrella-shaped acacia trees
Thousands of wildebeest and zebra dotting the landscape
Big cats—lions napping in the shade, cheetahs surveying the grasslands
Let nature set the pace. This isn’t just a game drive—it’s an experience that rewires your senses.
As golden light falls across the savannah, arrive at your tented camp in time for a bush dinner under the stars, with sounds of the wild as your soundtrack.
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Narudi Tented Camp, Central Serengeti
Today, you’re not rushing. You're waking up in the wild with a full day to explore the heart of the Serengeti.
Your guide will craft your route around the best sightings of the day. You may track a pride of lions near a rocky kopje, watch a herd of elephants splash at a watering hole, or spot elusive leopards resting in trees. If you're lucky, you’ll witness a hunt in real-time—an intense moment that reminds you this is untamed Africa.
Make a stop for a private bush picnic, surrounded by nothing but wilderness and the quiet hum of life.
Highlights may include:
The Great Migration (seasonal)
Crocodiles basking along the Grumeti or Seronera rivers
Secretary birds dancing in the tall grass
Rare sightings like servals, caracals, or bat-eared foxes
This is a day to fill your memory card and your soul. No screens. No noise. Just pure, wild life.
Return to your camp as the sun sinks low, and share stories around the fire.
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Into Wild Africa Camp, Central Serengeti
After a final breakfast in the heart of the Serengeti, begin a slow, scenic game drive toward the southeast as you make your way out of the park. This is not just a transfer—this is your last chance to spot Serengeti’s hidden wonders. Look out for:
Cheetahs scanning the plains from termite mounds
Ostriches racing alongside the vehicle
Hippos peeking from muddy pools
Large elephant bulls making their solitary morning marches
By midday, exit the park and pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where Maasai pastoralists live in harmony with wildlife.
As you ascend into the Ngorongoro Highlands, the air becomes cooler, the scenery greener. Arrive at your lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most breathtaking natural settings in Africa. On clear evenings, you might catch golden rays painting the inside of the crater with surreal beauty.
Spend the evening relaxing beside a fireplace or walking the lush lodge grounds. Prepare for tomorrow’s descent into the “Garden of Eden.”
Optional: Add a visit to a Maasai village for cultural storytelling, traditional dances, and learning how they coexist with lions, cattle, and wilderness.
Meals: B, L, D
Overnight: Rhino Lodge or similar (Ngorongoro Crater Rim)
Day 13: Ngorongoro Crater Safari – Return to Arusha or Airport
Wake up early to crisp highland air and enjoy a hot breakfast before descending 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most wildlife-dense places on Earth.
The Crater is home to nearly every species found in East Africa. It’s your best chance to spot the Big Five in a single game drive—lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and the critically endangered black rhino.
Expect to witness:
Lions lounging in morning light
Massive bull elephants grazing near the Lerai Forest
Flamingos and hippos in Lake Magadi
Hyenas trailing herds of wildebeest and zebra
Golden jackals, crowned cranes, and secretary birds
Enjoy a picnic lunch near the hippo pool, surrounded by the echo of grunts and birdsong, all set in this volcanic amphitheater of life.
After an unforgettable day in the Ngorongoro Crater, you’ll enjoy a relaxing morning and then drive down to the lush, emerald shores of Lake Manyara National Park—a perfect final destination that contrasts beautifully with the open Serengeti plains and the dramatic Crater floor.
Often called a “hidden gem,” Manyara surprises guests with its compact beauty and rich biodiversity. Begin with a game drive through the groundwater forest, where baboons bark from fig trees and blue monkeys leap from branch to branch. As the forest opens up, the lake reveals a stunning sight—flocks of flamingos shimmering pink across the water and hippos wallowing just offshore.
Keep your eyes open for:
Tree-climbing lions resting in acacia branches
Elephants emerging from thick bush to drink
Impala, giraffe, and zebra grazing near the escarpment
Rare birds like pelicans, bee-eaters, and hornbills
Stop at the hot springs boardwalk, where steaming pools bubble at the lake’s edge—a magical, lesser-known feature of the park. You’ll enjoy a light bush lunch or snack in a shaded picnic area, allowing time to reflect on your two-week adventure.
Afterward, begin your drive back toward Arusha or straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward journey.
✨ Optional Add-On: If your flight is in the evening, consider a brief cultural stop at a local art gallery or coffee estate near Arusha for a final taste of Tanzanian hospitality.
